Riding at Skeggs

I rode Skeggs on Saturday.  It was still a little moist in a few places, but very rideable I tried to stay up higher and away from creeks.
The view from Manzanita

Manzanita.  Love this trail.  I ride it every time I come to Skeggs.

I did have one small wipeout. I was heading downhill on Olion, and there was a small wooden bridge with a tight turn immediately afterwards. On my second lap, I took it a bit to fast. I started my turn on the bridge, and my back tire lost traction on the wet wood and slipped out. No harm.

Redwood hike @ Huddart Park

Eileen and I did a five mile loop through the Redwoods of Huddart Park.  I found the hike on this webpage.  I do a good deal of mountain biking nearby at Skeggs, so I expected the area to be very similar.  But the forest was much more lush with lots of moss and ferns.  Well labelled and maintained trails.  I don't remember seeing any wildlife except for a Banana Slug.  Anyway the forest was beautiful, and we really enjoyed the hike.

Redwoods are tall!

MTB Trailbuilding at Laguna Honda

I did another trail building event with SF Urban Riders at Laguna Honda on Saturday. We spent about three hours digging and moving dirt around to build some new turns. The photo below shows the work we did to build up a new berm.  It still needs a lot of work, but it is coming together.
Someone posted this photo on the FB event afterwards.

First night ride of the season

Daylight savings time ended on Sunday.  Currently sunset is happening around 5PM in SF.  Perfect time to do some night riding.

Mt. Sutro was in prime condition last night.  There was some rain a few days ago, and the trails were tacky without being wet or damp.  No dust.  And at night, there aren't any hikers/dogwalkers on the trail.

I didn't see any wildlife except for a few mice.  One of them tried to commit suicide by running under my tire, but I was able to brake in time.

Rename and Rebirth

So this blog is changing names from "Adventures and stuff" to "Weekly Gnar".  I haven't posted in 2 years, and I think it's partly because I was filtering myself.  The other part was apathy.  I still like to take a few big adventures a year, but if something didn't meet my threshold for an "adventure", I wouldn't post about it.

I need to get outside and burn off some energy at least on a weekly basis.  Usually that's just riding my mountain bike on the local trails, skiing, hiking, etc..  If I'm kept inside for too long, I get a little antsy.  I decided to rename to "Weekly Gnar" as a joke.

Anyway ski season is approaching soon.  I'm in the same ski lease up in Tahoe, and we've got some backcountry skiers in the house this year.  So everything is primed for some good old fashioned gnar.
